Treatment Protocol
Doxycycline for 45 days minimum. This is a zoonotic disease — practice hygiene.
Recommended Medications
Must complete full 45-day course
Dosage: 25-50mg/kg body weight, orally twice daily
Duration: 7-45 days (varies by condition, chlamydia requires 45 days)
Dosage: Dilute per product instructions in drinking water
Duration: 3-5 days (during illness/dehydration)
Essential during long antibiotic course
Dosage: Per product instructions, typically once daily
Duration: 7-14 days (during and after antibiotic treatment)
Home Care
- +Isolate infected bird immediately
- +Wash hands thoroughly after handling
- +Clean eye discharge gently with warm saline
- +Complete FULL 45-day treatment — do NOT stop early
- +All birds in household should be tested/treated
When to See a Vet
Recommended for all suspected chlamydia cases due to zoonotic risk. Lab test confirms diagnosis.
