- *Abdominal Swelling— The lower body or abdomen looks noticeably fuller, rounder, or distended than normal.
Associated Symptoms
- Straining to Defecate / Lay Egg
- Sitting on Cage Floor
- Lethargy / Sleepiness
- Fluffed Up Feathers
- Loss of Appetite
Treatment Protocol
EMERGENCY: Warmth + humidity + calcium. If egg not passed in 1-2 hours, seek vet immediately.
Recommended Medications
Dosage: Dilute per product instructions in drinking water
Duration: 3-5 days (during illness/dehydration)
Home Care
- +Provide warmth: 32-34°C with high humidity (steam from hot water nearby)
- +Calcium supplement (liquid calcium or cuttlebone scrapings in water)
- +Gently mist vent area with warm water
- +Place bird in dark, quiet environment
- +Do NOT try to manually extract the egg
- +If no egg in 1-2 hours: VET IMMEDIATELY
When to See a Vet
IMMEDIATELY if egg not passed within 1-2 hours. Can be fatal.
